The
T53 engine is used in the AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters. The
T55 engine is used in the CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The T56
engine is used in the C-130 transport and refueling
aircraft. The T700 engine is used in the AH-64 Apache and
the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters.
In order to provide a broader knowledge base for mechanics
being trained as aircraft power plant repairers, the U.S.
Army and Navy elected to have organizational and
intermediate
maintenance level interactive courseware (ICW) produced to
simulate repair procedures and troubleshooting for these
engines.
TSM, as a training systems
support contractor, developed and implemented in excess of
70 lesson hours of ICW. The lessons covered basic principles
of gas turbine engine functional operation, troubleshooting,
repair and component removal and installation procedures at
the organizational and intermediate maintenance levels.
Test equipment taught as part of engine lessons include the
temperature datum test set, tachometer test set,
thermocouple tester, and the synchrophaser test set.
